RFID stands for Radio-Frequency IDentification and refers to a small electronic device that provides an object with a unique identification. An RFID device can store up to 2,000 bytes of data and information is retrieved by scanning, just like a barcode or a credit card’s magnetic strip.
A significant advantage of an RFID-tagged device is that it can be detected from 20-30 feet away and does not require to be positioned precisely for scanning. For example, all the objects with RFID labels can be placed within a bag and set onto a scanner and the total amount of the purchases can be totaled immediately. This increases both efficiency and accuracy.
